Our Story

We enrich the lives of our membership by reducing the feelings of isolation by fostering SOCIAL opportunities. This includes events and peer groups.

We provide EDUCATION and information to families, also ensuring the public has greater awareness.

We are passionate, caring, welcoming and inviting; and ensure SUPPORT is available to people with Down syndrome and their families.

Fostering a Supportive and Inclusive Community

The Manitoba Down Syndrome Society (MDSS) provides a diverse range of programs designed to support individuals and families at every stage of their lives.

Active Youth

The Manitoba Down Syndrome Society's Active Youth Program is a dynamic program designed to help youth with Down syndrome discover the joy of movement, build lasting friendships, and grow in confidence both on and off the field.

Bridge to Access

MDSS offers accessible pricing for low income members and families. To determine eligibility, we refer to the Statistics Canada Low Income Cut-Offs, After Tax (LICO-AT) measure as our standard for assessing low income status.

Local Champions Fund

The Local Champions Fund supports the delivery of community-led sport or physical activity-based programs, projects and initiatives outside of Winnipeg, helping to strengthen inclusion and connection across Manitoba.

Social Club

MDSS Social Clubs provide fun, inclusive, and parent-free social programming for young adults with Down syndrome in our community. Meeting twice monthly from September through June.

Visiting Parents

We understand that learning your child has Down syndrome can bring a wave of emotions - MDSS is here to welcome your family, connect you with others who understand, and provide the support and resources you need

Hospital Visits

MDSS is pleased to offer hospital visits and care packages to members of our community whose child or loved one with Down syndrome is currently in the hospital.

Our membership fee is $35.00 for individuals and families, $75 for organizations and groups. Adult Self Advocates are entitled to membership free of charge.
