MDSS RESOURCE LIBRARY

L I B R A R Y

The Manitoba Down Syndrome Society (MDSS) has established a resource library for the use and benefit of both its members and of other interested individuals. The library currently consists of the appended lists of books, newsletters, proceedings of conferences and video tapes. Past copies of both the CDSS and MDSS newsletters are also maintained for reference use. These resource materials are all available for use/loan in accordance with the existing MDSS "lending" policy through the MDSS office at 204 - 825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Phone (204) 992-2731 [Fax: (204) 975-3027].

Also included is a list of references to articles on medical/health/other topics, published in research journals, of interest and related to Down Syndrome. NOTE: Copies of these articles are NOT AVAILABLE in the MDSS Library, but may be accessed through the Neil John Maclean Library,
The Brodie Centre, Bannatyne Campus of the University of Manitoba, 771 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg.

Future acquisitions to the library will include current reading material, newsletters from other Down Syndrome Associations from across North America as well as copies of pertinent articles on medical/health/educational/other subject matters related to Down Syndrome.

Lists of available resource material are updated periodically and are available from the MDSS Office at 204 - 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg.

The MDSS encourages and acknowledges donations of useful resource materials to its library.

Borrowers will receive a reminder by phone within a week after the due date. If titles are
not returned, a bill for the price of the titles will be issued. Library privileges will be
suspended until either the books are returned or paid for.

TITLE RESERVATION:


A title may be requested by phone and held for a borrower for up to a week. If the title is
circulating, it will be held when it is returned.

The document is based on research recently sponsored by The Roeher Institute and conducted by Dr. Gary Bunch at York University’s Faculty of Education symposia involving knowledgeable people on teacher education and research in inclusive education, a review of Statistics Canada’s National Population Health Survey of 1998 and the Participation and Activity Limitation Survey of 2001, as well as focused discussions with Canadian leaders in inclusive education and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation.

A Promising Future Together.  The National Down Syndrome Society offers this new video aimed at educating parents about their new or expected baby with Down syndrome.

“Shorty” Walter “Shorty” Sims is a fixture at an American University.  Walter’s adult life is described in this video. His participation in supporting the football team is very touching.
